KENOSHA, Wis. – Missouri S&T's baseball team had a few tense moments Sunday after building five-run leads in both games of its doubleheader at Wisconsin-Parkside, but came away with a sweep with wins of 9-7 in 13 innings in game one and 6-3 in the nightcap.

Shortstop Clint Wobbe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS), who had the first four-hit game of his Miner career Sunday, drove in the game-winning run in the first game with an RBI single in the top of the 13th and Zack Gronek (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell), who entered the game in the ninth inning, threw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit relief to lock up the victory.

In the 13th, Reed Brown (Rogers, Ark./Heritage) led off the inning with a double down the left field line.  After a sacrifice bunt, Wobbe singled through a drawn-in infield to put S&T in front.  Wobbe would score with two outs when Michael Lockett (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) doubled down the line in right.

In a game that matched the longest contest in Miner history – the other 13-inning game also came against UW-Parkside in 2004 – the Miners took a seemingly comfortable 5-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh.  But the Rangers scored twice in the seventh, then took full advantage of two errors in the eighth – one on a double play ball that would have ended the inning without a run scoring – to score five times and take the lead.

Chris Bowe (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) shut out the Rangers on three over the first six innings, but ran into some difficulty in the seventh as UW-Parkside got on the scoreboard.  The Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out and eventually got two runs out of the uprising to cut into the S&T lead.

Bowe was lifted after allowing a leadoff single in the eighth, then a bad throw to second on a double play ball that could have got the Miners out of the inning left the door open for the Rangers.  UW-Parkside loaded the bases with one out and an error that followed plated a run and a hit by Corey Stonelake cut the lead to one.

Moments later, Tyler Gieseking's ground out knotted the score at five, then after Harry Dunsford (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) took over on the mound for S&T, Chris Glynn delivered a two-run single to put Parkside in front.

However, the Miners answered right back with two runs in the top of the ninth as Voth-Gaeddert drove in Wobbe and Will McCord (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman HS) with a one-out single to tie the game at seven.  S&T had scoring chances in the 10th and 12th innings as well, but had a double play end the 10th and had a runner picked off in the 12th before finally breaking through in the 13th against Ranger hurler Josh Geiger.

The Miners grabbed the lead in the opening contest by scoring twice in the third inning.  Clint Wobbe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) doubled with one out and Will McCord (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman HS) followed with a double of his own to score Wobbe.  Michael Lockett (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) singled to the opposite field to bring home McCord with the second run of the frame.

S&T tacked on three more runs in the fifth and again it started when Wobbe reached base.  He was hit by a pitch to start the inning, then McCord bunted his way on base and moved up a base along with Wobbe when the second baseman threw the ball away.

Lockett drove home Wobbe with a hit, then Voth-Gaeddert followed with an infield single to score McCord.  Later in the inning, the Miners got their third run when Jake Brower (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland) delivered a sacrifice fly to give S&T its five-run lead.

Missouri S&T had 17 hits in the opener, with 14 of them coming from Wobbe, the ninth-place hitter and the top three spots in the order.  Wobbe and McCord had four hits apiece, while Lockett and Voth-Gaeddert had three apiece.  Lockett and Voth-Gaeddert also drove in three runs each.

Bowe allowed just seven hits in his seven innings of work and struck out two, while Gronek fanned four and allowed only one baserunner in his 4 2/3 innings – Glynn, who was hit by a pitch in the 11th and was thrown out attempting to steal second.   The win for Gronek was the 19th of his S&T career, tying the Miners' all-time record held by Jeff Walters that has stood since 1980.

In the nightcap, the Miners built another 5-0 lead only to see the Rangers trim it to a two-run game in the sixth, but held firm to complete the sweep as they won for the 10th time in their last 11 games.

S&T grabbed the advantage in the opening inning as McCord walked, stole second, went to third on an infield single by Voth-Gaeddert and scored on Andy Hall (Rolla, Mo./Rolla HS)'s sacrifice fly.

The Miners added to the lead in the fifth, taking advantage of a key error by the Rangers to score four times.

After one-out walks to Wobbe and McCord, Lockett reached on Ben Korman's error and Wobbe came around to score.  Voth-Gaeddert singled to load the bases, then Hall singled up the middle to drive home two more runs.

S&T got its fourth run of the inning when Josh Caffrey (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington HS) reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Voth-Gaeddert to score.

The Rangers scored twice in the fifth off S&T starter Kyle Robertson (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) on John Brennan's two-run double, then scored an unearned run an inning later on an infield out.

Josh Raburn (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) got the Miners out of the sixth by retiring Glynn with a runner on third, then Dunsford -- pitching for the fourth time in two days -- set the Rangers down in order in the seventh to pick up his sixth save.

Voth-Gaeddert had three of S&T's seven hits in game two, while Hall drove in three runs to get the win for Robertson, who improved to 3-1 with a five-inning outing where he allowed four hits and struck out four.

The Miners, 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will host Illinois Springfield in a four-game series beginning Saturday at the S&T Baseball Field.
