SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T had two event victories on Friday night in its final regular season meet, but lost by a count of
109-83 to defending NCAA Division II champion Drury.
The wins came from
Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School) in the 100-yard freestyle, as he captured that race in a time of 46.80 seconds and the Miners' 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Matt Zieger (St. Joseph, Mo./Central), Dole,
Sean Deegan (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) and
Hayden Price (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove) as they won in 1:25.68 – winning by one-hundredth of a second over Drury's quartet.
S&T got a second place showing from
Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 52.60 seconds, while
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) posted the second-best time in the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:01.02.
The Miners' 200-yard medley relay team of Dole,
Alex Griffin (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette),
Phil Arve (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) and Deegan placed second in a time of 1:36.96.
Third place finishes came from Goldfarb in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:52.87, Deegan in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.63 seconds, Arve in the 200-individual medley in 1:59.89,
Ryan Gibson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) in the 100-butterfly in 53.62 seconds and
Luis Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R./Colegio Amador) in the 100-backstroke in 54.22 seconds.
Arve also had the third-best time in the 500-yard freestyle of 4:52.18.
Missouri S&T's next competition will be at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Championships, which begin Feb. 22 in Cleveland, Miss. The Miners are the five-time defending champions of that meet.
