Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball team ran into a talented Drury team Thursday night and despite making runs at the Panthers over the first 30 minutes, the undefeated hosts had answers for them – namely Alex Hall -- and took an
88-52 victory at the O'Reilly Family Events Center.
Hall scored a season-high 33 points, hitting nine-of-10 from three-point range in the process – to propel the Panthers Thursday night. Hall hit several of those treys after the Miners had made spurts to start Drury runs, eventually breaking S&T's back in the second half.
The Miners and Panthers played on relatively even terms during the early minutes of the contest.
Bryce Foster (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central)'s steal and dunk at the 16:56 mark cut Drury's lead to 8-7, then a three-pointer by Foster with 13:26 remaining in the half trimmed the Panther advantage to 14-12.
Drury rattled off seven straight points after the Foster trey and eventually extended its lead to 10, but a pair of three-pointers by
Michael Nesbitt (Evansville, Ind./LaLumiere School) , the latter at the 7:13 mark, allowed S&T to get the Panther lead down to six at 27-21.
But again, the Panthers would answer with a 9-0 run in a span of two minutes to take a 15-point lead, then pushed the margin out to 16 near the end of the half on two free throws by Brandon Lockhart.
After Drury pushed the lead out to 19 early in the second half, the Miners were again able to cut into the margin, getting it down to 14 on a Mudi Eruteya basket with 11:19 to play. However, another run by the Panthers, this one a 14-2 spurt, allowed them to begin pulling away as they would lead by as many as 39 during the final 10 minutes of action.
The Miners, who shot 38 percent for the game, got 19 points from Foster while Eruteya added 12. Eruteya also pulled down eight rebounds as S&T matched the Panthers on the boards at 33 apiece.
Drury, which received the most votes of any team outside the NABC/Division II Top 25 this week, also got 10 points from Cameron Adams as it hit 54 percent of its shots from the floor and 12-of-25 from three-point range to win for the sixth time in as many games.
Missouri S&T, who fell to 2-3 with the loss, will return home to host Baptist Bible College in a 7 p.m. contest Saturday at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
