Box Score

(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a hard fought battle to Northern Kentucky 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the S&T Soccer Field. The Norse dominated the match on the stat sheet but S&T's defense made some big plays early keeping them in the game.

After a scoreless first half Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) put the Lady Miners (2-4-1, 2-4 GLVC) on top in the 48th minute connecting on a penalty kick. The PK was set-up when Colleen Lewis (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall Academy) was pulled down in the box off an S&T corner.

Young had a shot to give the Lady Miners a two goal lead nearly two minutes later but her attempt was turned away by Rachael Wood.

The Norse (7-1, 5-1 GLVC) continued applying the pressure but were unable to get the equalizer as the S&T defense held its ground.

NKU tied the game in the 72nd minute when Amanda Mason redirected a ball from Laura Painter off a free kick. The Norse appeared to take the lead a couple of minutes later off the rebound of a missed shot but the play was called offsides.

NKU scored again in the 79th minute when Hannah Adams put one over the reach of Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy).

The Lady Miners attempted to rally in the final 10 minutes but were unable to get anything on goal.

The Norse outshot S&T by an 18-5 margin and 8-4 in shots on goal. They also attempted eight corner kicks.

Deister, making her first start, recorded six saves. Young had two shots both of which were on goal.

The Lady Miners will be back in action on Friday afternoon traveling to St. Louis, Mo., to take on the Maryville Saints at 4 p.m.
