(Owensboro, Ky.) – Down 3-1 with just under 28 minutes left the Missouri S&T Lady Miners made a furious rally defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 5-4 in OT in a wild game at Panther Field in Owensboro, Ky. Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) scored the game winner 1:25 into the first overtime period.
The Panthers (0-4, 0-4 GLVC) scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute as Paige Kramer put home a shot from Savannah Pepper. Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) tied the game for S&T (2-2-1, 2-2 GLVC) in the 32nd minute scoring off a pass from Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias).
KWC regained the lead five minutes later as Annie Elder scored on an unassisted goal giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead at the break.
The Lady Miners outshot KWC by a 10-7 margin and 5-4 in shots on goal.
The Panthers extended their lead to 3-1 when Pepper scored at the 62:43 mark on an unassisted goal.
S&T responded scoring shortly after that as Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ) blasted a shot in from 25 yards out for her first college goal. Shelly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy Springs) set up the goal. The Lady Miners tied it six minutes later as Young put home a rebound off a shot by Lauren Todd (Raytown, Mo./Raytown South) for her second of the year.
Williams tallied her second of the afternoon in the 72nd minute scoring off a pass from Paige Smothers (Marion, Ill./Marion) for her fifth of the season.
The lead wouldn't hold as the Panthers tied the game four minutes later on Elder's second goal of the afternoon.
S&T won the game as K. Ekholm scored an unassisted goal for the Lady Miners second overtime win of the season.
S&T finished the game outshooting Kentucky Wesleyan by a 22-14 margin with 15 being on goal.
The Lady Miners return home on Friday evening to take on Bellarmine at 5 p.m., at the S&T Soccer Field.
