ROLLA, Mo. – Very little went right for Missouri S&T's men's basketball team Wednesday night as it closed out its three-game Great Lakes Valley Conference homestand on a down note, losing 88-42 to Drury University at Billy Key Court.
The Panthers (5-3, 2-1 GLVC) took control of the contest near the midway point of the first half, outscoring the Miners 23-4 over a stretch of nearly eight minutes to extend a three-point lead to 22. S&T trailed 17-14 after
Michael Jackson (Wichita, Kan./Wichita East) drained a pair of free throws at the 11:49 mark, but used that big run to take a 40-18 lead with 4:09 to go in the half.
After a fast-break basket by
Bryce Foster (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) halted that run, Drury scored the final 11 points of the half and led 51-20 at the break; the Panthers would outscore S&T 37-22 in the final 20 minutes.
The Miners shot only 28.6 percent in the game and made only two of their 16 three-point attempts. S&T was also outrebounded by the Panthers by a 41-29 margin and were guilty of 22 turnovers.
Meanwhile, Drury shot 59.4 percent in the opening half, which included a seven-of-nine showing from three-point range, and ended the evening at 56.5 percent.
Jackson was the lone Miner to finish in double figures in the scoring column with 10 points. Drury had four players in double figures, led by Brandon Lockhart with 16 points.
Missouri S&T (1-8, 0-3 GLVC) will return to action after the university completes its final examinations, with its next game scheduled for Dec. 18 against Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
