S&T drops second straight in Ohio 71-53 to Northwood

Box Score (Findlay, Ohio) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped their second straight contest losing to Northwood 71-53 on Friday afternoon in Findlay, Ohio. S&T (8-2) made a season-low 14 field goals and shot a season-low 31.1 percent (14-for-45).

Northwood (7-6) set the tone early grabbing four offensive rebounds on its first three possessions which resulted in its first six points of the contest.

The Lady Miners shot the ball well in the early making four of their first five field goals and were within a point on two different occasions early but could never take the lead.

The Timberwolves broke the game open with a 15-2 run spanning nearly six minutes. Rachel Church hit three straight three's in the run stretching the lead from seven to 16.

S&T cut the deficit to 33-24 with 0:25 left in the first half on a pair of free throws by Kyesha Hall (Dodson, La./).

Janell Smith made it an 11 point game going into the locker room with jumper in the final seconds of the half.

The Lady Miners were 7-for-17 (41.2 percent) from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line in the opening frame. They were outrebounded by a 15-to-13 margin, 7-2 on the offensive end, and turned it over 12 times. Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) had six apiece to lead S&T.

Northwood shot 47 percent (14-of-30) from the floor and 5-of-13 (39 percent) from downtown. Church led all scorers with 12 points.

The Lady Miners cut the lead to 10 early in the second half but were unable to get any closer than that the rest of the way.

The Timberwolves broke the game open with a 16-6 run over a six minute stretch.

S&T had a lid on its basket the entire second half shooting just 25 percent for the frame (7-for-28). It went 14-for-21 from the foul line.

Northwood shot 50 percent from the floor and was 11-for-15 at the foul line in the second half.

Meyer led three Lady Miners in double figures with 12 points. Knar added 11 while Hailee Parks (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan) dropped in 10.

Church led all scorers with 20 points. Savannah Stedman added 16 while Megan Gonta had 11 and Kaitlin Susan dropped home 10.

S&T returns to GLVC play next Thursday evening when it travels to Evansville, Ind., for a match-up against Southern Indiana beginning at 5:15 p.m.
