BOCA RATON, Fla. – Missouri S&T returned to the floor Sunday night for the first of its two games in Florida, but struggled to get into a rhythm from the outset and ended up on the losing end of a 75-42 decision to host Lynn University in the Courtyard by Marriott Classic.
The Fighting Knights made two runs on the Miners during the first half to build as much as a 21-point lead. Lynn used a 7-0 run early in the half to go up by nine at the 15:15 mark, then outscored S&T 14-1 over a stretch of seven and half minutes later in the half to go up 27-9 with 6:47 remaining in the half.
Josh Garcia, who went four-of-five from three-point range, and Preye Preboye did most of the damage for Lynn in the opening half as they combined to score 25 of the Knights' points as they led 38-19 at the intermission. Garcia would finish with a game-high 21 points and Preboye ended the night with a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in a reserve role.
S&T shot only 31.3 percent for the game and made only four of its 16 attempts from three-point range, while the Knights finished at 45.2 percent for the game and connected 12 times from long range.
Nusrath Khan (Morton Grove, Ill./Maine East) led S&T with 11 points and
Tommy Pelczynski (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) had 10 and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Miners, who fell to 1-9 on the season with the setback, will wrap up their trip to Florida Monday with a game against Barry University at 4 p.m. (Central time).
