S&T blows past Cal State Dominguez Hill 73-42

Box Score (Phoenix, Ariz.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners outscored Cal State Dominguez Hills 35-6 over the final 13 minutes of the first half in cruising to an easy 73-42 victory on Friday afternoon at the Grand Canyon Thanksgiving Classic in Phoenix, Ariz.

S&T (2-0) shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half and put on an unselfish passing display recording 10 assists on 15 field goals. The Lady Miners were also 15-for-20 at the foul line.

S&T lead 12-8 with 13:38 to play in the opening frame before going on a 9-1 run to extend the advantage to 21-9. The Toros (1-4) cut the lead to 10 on a pair of free throws with more than eight minutes to play.

That would be the closest it was the rest of the half as the Lady Miners used a 17-0 run over the next five minutes to build its advantage to 27 points. They closed the half scoring the final six points of the stanza.

S&T did the job on the defensive end as well holding CSUDH to just 18 percent (5-for-28) from the field and forced 14 turnovers.
Hailee Parks (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan) led the Lady Miners with 13 points. Katelyn Heil (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) dropped in nine while Kyesha Hall (Dodson, La./) added six more.

Sherrie Hughes led the Toros with five points and seven rebounds.

S&T kept the pressure early on in the second half scoring the first four points in building its lead to 37 points.

The Toros got as close as 24 points with 11:24 to play but no closer than that as the Lady Miners kept their lead around 26 points for the rest of the contest.

Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) capped off the scoring with a three from the left wing with 1:40 to play.

After its hot-shooting in the first half S&T cooled off in the second making only seven field goals but were 9-for-12 at the foul line.

The Lady Miners outrebounded CSUDH 44-36 and held them to just 26 percent shooting from the floor.

Parks led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds while Heil added 12 and Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) chipped in with nine.

S&T returns to action on Saturday afternoon to face San Francisco State at 1 p.m. (Central Time).
