ROLLA, Mo. -- A crazy sequence in overtime led to a potential game-winning goal being disallowed, leaving Missouri S&T's men's soccer team to settle for a 1-1 tie with Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday at the S&T Soccer Field.

The Miners appeared to have won the game 1:49 into the second overtime period when a corner kick was tipped by Jervis Atagana (Columbia, Mo./Hickman ) to Spencer Brinkmeyer (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park), who put the shot in the back of the net.  However, the Rangers' coaching staff came out to protest the call to the officials, who then conferred on the matter for a few moments and waved off the goal on an offsides call.

As a result, the Miners were unable to officially clinch a berth to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and will look to complete that task Wednesday when they close the regular season schedule at home against Drury.

Only three of the eight berths to the GLVC Tournament have been clinched through play on Sunday.  S&T is currently tied with Quincy for fourth place and four other teams are within a game of fourth heading into the final day of action.

UW-Parkside, which was eliminated from contention for a tournament with the tie on Sunday, broke on top at the 21:45 mark when Spencer Bursten hit a shot from about 30 yards away into the upper corner of the net.

S&T finished the first half with a 10-7 advantage in shots, then turned up the heat on the Rangers during the second half of play.  The Miners had a 10-shot edge in the half and had a couple of chances to tie it stopped at the goal line by Ranger defenders.

The Miners were finally able to get the equalizer with just over 20 minutes to go when Trent Doerner (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) -- one of six Miner seniors honored prior to the contest -- settled a pass from fellow senior J.J. Bilyeu (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) and rifled a low shot from just outside the top of the box to even the score.

UW-Parkside had a chance to win it late in regulation time when Jon Gourlay's shot was deflected by S&T goalkeeper Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) and went off the crossbar, but time all but expired before the Rangers could get the corner kick that followed away.

After the apparent game-winner was waved off, each team had a great chance to win it in the final minute.  Gourlay got free out of a scrum to get a shot off, but it went off a teammate to McNamee, who proceeded to send a long kick out to Peter Haw (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) behind the Ranger defense.  His shot with four seconds remaining on the clock went wide to end the game in a tie.

The Miners, 10-4-2 and 8-4-2 in the GLVC, outshot the Rangers 32-14 for the game and had a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal.  McNamee, another of the seniors along with Ryan Muich (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon), Jonathan Goecker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit HS) and Kyle Sneed (Humble, Texas/Atascocita) -- all of whom were in the starting lineup Sunday -- made six saves in goal.

S&T and Drury will face off at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the S&T Soccer Field.
