(Evansville, Ind.) – A couple of records were tied in the Missouri S&T Lady Miners 74-70 win at Southern Indiana on Saturday. The Lady Miners won their 10th straight matching the 1986-87 and 2007-08 teams as the only ones to win 10 in a row. Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) tied Trish Van Diggelen's school record with her seven three-pointers. S&T rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to win.

Playing their fourth game in seven days the Lady Miners (12-2, 6-0 GLVC) appeared tired and struggled to find a rhythm after getting a pair of early leads. Southern Indiana (8-6, 4-2 GLVC) took advantage behind the play of Courtney Perry and Stephanie Gelhausen as they scored nine of the Screaming Eagles first 11 points.

Courtney Kemp (Fredricktown, Mo./Fredricktown) brought S&T to within 14-10 with a three at the 13:39 mark, but USI went on a 13-6 run over the next six minutes to build its largest lead of the half at 27-16.

The Lady Miners climbed back to within four behind the play of Hailee Parks (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan), Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and Fareedah Washington (Forrest City, Ark./Forrest City) who accounted for the scoring.

Southern Indiana pushed its lead back out to nine getting a trio of threes to make it 39-30 with just over two minutes remaining.

S&T fought back though getting to within three behind four points from Meyer and a bucket by Washington. It had a chance to trail by only three at the break but Kristin Raker hit her second triple of the frame to make it 42-36 right before the intermission.

After its slow start the Lady Miners warmed to finish the frame shooting 48.3 percent (14-for-29) from the floor. The Screaming Eagles were just a little bit better as it took advantage of its hot shooting from the perimeter. USI shot 16-for-32 (50 percent) from the floor and shot 54 percent (7-for-13) from behind the arc.

The Screaming Eagles had a 17-to-15 edge on the glass and were led in scoring by Perry with 11 and Amie Newhart with seven.

Parks had 10 to lead S&T while Meyer had eight and Washington dropped in six.

The second half started out as the Ellen Young show as she scored seven of Southern Indiana's first 11 points as it raced out to a 53-38 lead just over three minutes in.

S&T began to cut in the lead thanks to the three-point shooting of Knar. She hit three three's in a span of three minutes sparking an 11-0 run which made it 53-49. It sandwiched a 7-0 run around a bucket from Lauren Meneghetti as Knar hit her fourth three of the frame to give the Lady Miners their first lead since it was 6-5.

USI ran off four straight to regain the lead but Knar tied it back up with her fifth triple of the half.

Meneghetti gave the Screaming Eagles the lead back before Katelyn Heil (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) hit her second three of the contest to make it 62-61 S&T with exactly nine minutes to play.

Another three by Raker gave USI the lead back at 64-62 and sparked a 6-0 allowing them to take a 67-62 advantage with 5:27 remaining.

Meyer scored three straight to make it 67-65 before Perry made a layup to push the margin back to four.

Another bucket by Meyer pulled the Lady Miners to within two then Knar gave them the lead for good with her sixth three of the stanza to make it 70-69 with 3:33 to play.

Parks made it 72-69 almost a minute later hitting a pair of free throws.

The Screaming Eagles had a chance to get within a point with 1:13 left but Newhart made just 1-of-2 at the charity stripe.

S&T had a chance to extend its lead on a couple of different trips but were unable to get the bounces as USI got the ball back and had a chance to win the game with 0:28 left.

Newhart missed a jumper but Young was able to get the offensive rebound with 0:15 left. She tried to put up a game winning three but Meyer was able to get a hand on it and D'Naya Mims (Chicago, Ill./Harlan Community Academy) came away with the rebound. She hit a streaking Meyer with a perfect pass and she was all alone to put in the game clinching basket.

The Lady Miners shot exactly 50 percent from the floor in the second half and were even better from three. S&T was 7-for-13 from the perimeter thanks in large part to the shooting of Knar. She was 6-for-8 and had 18 points in the frame. She matched a conference best with seven in a game this season.

She led S&T with 22 points while Meyer had 17, nine in the second half, while Parks finished with 14. Mims had seven rebounds.

Perry led four Screaming Eagle players in double figures with 15 points. Young had 14, Raker dropped in 11 while Meneghetti had 11.

The Lady Miners conclude their six game road swing with a trip to the University of Indianapolis next Thursday night beginning at 4:30 p.m. (CST).
