INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A five-game road swing for Missouri S&T's men's basketball team came to a close Thursday on a down note, as the Miners were unable to slow down the Great Lakes Valley Conference's highest scoring unit in a
93-63 loss at the University of Indianapolis.
The Miners held the lead twice in the early going, but the Greyhounds rattled off 10 straight points – doing most of the damage inside – to take an eight-point lead three and one-half minutes into play. UIndy took control of the contest from that point, pushing its lead into double figures by the 15:02 mark on a basket by Darius Adams and eventually leading by as many as 26 points in the opening half at 47-21.
Indianapolis connected on exactly 50 percent of its shots in the opening half to build the lead, while holding the Miners to just 25.9 percent in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds finished the contest at 52.9 percent while S&T shot 50 percent in the second half to end the night at 37.7 percent from the floor.
Nusrath Khan (Morton Grove, Ill./Maine East) led the Miners with a career-high 18 points, while
Mike Malat (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) also finished in double figures with 14. Malat and Khan combined to hit all five of the Miners' three-point baskets in the game.
Darius Adams, the second-leading scorer in the GLVC at the beginning of the night at 23.1 points per game, led all scorers with 20 points for the Greyhounds, while Nate Blank had 18 and Wilbur O'Neal, who did much of his scoring during UIndy's early run, ended up with 15.
Missouri S&T, 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the GLVC, returns home for its next two contests, the first of which will take place Saturday against Drury University. Game time will be 7:30 p.m. at Billy Key Court.
