ROLLA, Mo. -- For the third straight season, Missouri S&T and Wisconsin-Parkside played to a draw as the teams opened their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a
1-1 tie Sunday at the S&T Soccer Field.
In a game that the Miners controlled for much of the first half, it was the Rangers who broke on top as they scored on the first shot they took. Zoran Jovicic got to a ball on a cross that S&T goalkeeper
Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) was unable to corral and scored at the 35:15 mark.
The Miners knotted the score late in the first half when sophomore
Brian Seawright (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) headed in a long feed from
J.J. Bilyeu (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) with 2:15 remaining on the clock.
Neither team could break the tie over the next 65 minutes of play although both sides had opportunities. McNamee turned away an in-close attempt by Spencer Bursten in the second half, while UWP goalie Ryan Onwukwe made a save on a try by
David Kekec (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) in the final moments of regulation time. The Miners also had another shot in the second half cleared off the goal line by a Ranger defender.
S&T outshot the Rangers 18-9 on the afternoon, with McNamee being credited with four saves. Onwukwe made seven saves for UW-Parkside (2-0-1, 0-0-1 GLVC).
The Miners (0-0-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) will be on the road for two conference games next weekend, beginning Friday at Illinois-Springfield. Game time will be at 7:30 p.m.
