SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- For the second game in succession, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team held a huge edge on the stat sheet, but saw the end result turn out to be a tie as it played to a scoreless draw Friday in its Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Illinois-Springfield.
After outshooting Wisconsin-Parkside 18-9 in a 1-1 tie Sunday, the Miners had an 18-6 advantage in the shots department Friday. However, that 12-shot difference in their favor as well as having 17 corner kick opportunities to none for the Prairie Stars were unable to produce a goal for S&T.
David Kekec (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) had five shots and Sam Shaffer (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) had three for the Miners in the contest. Only one of the six UIS shots made it on goal and that was turned away by Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ), who recorded his 12th career shutout.
S&T (0-0-2 overall and in the GLVC) will face Lewis (1-2, 1-1 GLVC) Sunday at noon in Romeoville, Ill. The Flyers blasted Maryville 6-0 Friday to win for the first time this year.
