Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) earned first team All-GLVC honors at first base for her outstanding 2010 season announced Thursday night at the GLVC Softball Tournament Banquet in East Peoria, Ill. Three other Lady Miners earned honors as well as
Ashley Wallingford (Kahoka, Mo./Clark County ) and
Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland) were named to the second team while
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) earned third team honors.
Drage, a junior from Morganfield, Ky., led the Lady Miners in nearly offensive category this past season and is the third leading hitter in the conference with her .435 average. She leads the league in runs batted in with 43, is second in slugging percentage (.754), third in total bases (104), tied for third in doubles (15) and fifth in on-base percentage (.463). She helped clinch S&T's spot in the conference post-season tournament hitting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning in the Lady Miners 5-1 win over Maryville last Wednesday.
Wallingford, a senior from Kahoka, Mo., was named to the second team squad as a pitcher and earned her second straight second team selection earning honors as a utility player last season. The right hander is 11-11 for S&T this season and has a 2.76 ERA. She has 12 complete games and a pair of shutouts for the Lady Miners. She has struck out 109 batters in 149.2 innings and is holding opponents to a .239 batting average.
Deibert, a junior designated player from Highland, Ill., also earned her second straight selection the all-conference squad. She earned third team honors at DP last season. This year she is second behind Drage in almost every offensive category. She is currently hitting .317 with three home runs, six doubles and 26 RBIs. Nearly half of her RBIs have come with two outs.
Keal, a freshman pitcher from Blue Springs, Mo., earned third team accolades at pitcher going 14-9 with a 2.51 ERA and a pair of saves to lead S&T. She has thrown 16 complete games and had three shutouts. In her next to last start of the regular season she held Maryville to just two hits in the Lady Miners 1-0 win that clinched the berth in the conference tournament. She has struck out 88 hitters in 139.1 innings while holding the opposition to a .233 batting average.
S&T returns to the field on Friday afternoon taking on Lewis University in the first round of the GLVC Tournament beginning at 1 p.m., in East Peoria, Ill. Depending on the outcome the Lady Miners will play at either 3 p.m., or 5 p.m. on Friday as well.
