(St. Louis, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners allowed six home runs as it was swept in a doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis
12-0 and
5-1 on Thursday evening.
In the first game the Tritons (25-17, 15-11 GLVC) got on the board scoring six times in the first inning getting a two run single from JaCee Ellis and a two run double from Heather Arras.
The lead grew to 9-0 in the third on a solo home run by Brooke Meyer and RBI singles from Haleigh Jenkins and Meaghan Bauer.
S&T (26-21, 16-12 GLVC) tried to get back in the game loading the bases with one out on a hit by pitch and back-to-back singles by Kristen Drage (Morganfield, Ky./Union County ) and Kassi Deibert (Highland, Ill./Highland). The bases would be left loaded though as a pair of strikeouts ended the inning.
UMSL added three more in the fourth on a solo home run by Arras and a two run single by Jenkins.
The Lady Miner offense registered only three hits in the game as Drage, Deibert and Lindsey DeForest (Fulton, Mo./North Callaway) accounted for the offense.
Ashley Wallingford (Kahoka, Mo./Clark County ) allowed eight runs, four earned on five hits in only 2.2. She walked five and struck out two to fall to 11-11 on the season.
In the nightcap the Tritons scored the game's first run on a throwing error by Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South).
S&T tied it in the third on a two-out RBI single through the right side by Deibert which scored Briana Catanese (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail). It had the chance to take the lead but Krista Porterfield (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) was thrown at the plate by the right fielder ending the inning.
UMSL regained the lead with two outs in the bottom of the third as Jenkins, Karey Kruse and Jenkins hit back-to-back-to-back solo home runs to make it a 4-1 contest.
Brooke Meyer made it 5-1 in the fourth with a solo home run down the left field line.
The Lady Miners had six hits the game led by Kate Runyan (Crown Point, Ind./Boone Grove) with two.Drage, Deibert, Catanese and Porterfield each had a hit.
Taylor Keal (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) fell to 14-9 allowing five runs, four earned on five hits in six innings of work.
S&T returns to action next Friday in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament against an opponent to be determined in East Peoria, Ill.
