Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Jefferson, City, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners needed an extra inning, but were able to get the job done scoring three times in the eighth to secure a 4-2 win in the opening game of a doubleheader at Lincoln on Wednesday. S&T won the nightcap 9-1 scoring six times in the first three innings.

In the first game the Lady Miners (14-8) got on the board first in the third inning loading the bases with nobody out and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Kristen Drage. S&T had a chance for an even bigger inning loading the bases again with one out but couldn't cash in as a pop out to second and strikeout ended the frame.

The Blue Tigers (2-14) got that run back in the home half of the third to tie it back up at 1-1.

The Lady Miners had their chances to break the tie getting a runner to second base in the fourth and six innings but couldn't drive them in.

After both sides were retired in order in the seventh the game moved to the eighth inning with each team putting a runner on second to start the inning. S&T broke the tie on a double to left center by Coley Naughton that hit off the top of the fence to score Kaylea Smith. After a groundout moved Naughton over to third, Jennifer Sardigal doubled to left to score Naughton to make it 3-1. Katie Smith drove in the final run with a single to left center to score Sardigal.

Lincoln answered with a run in the home half of the inning but that was all it could muster as the Lady Miners came away with the 4-2 win.

S&T had nine hits in the game led by Naughton with two.

Ashley Wallingford picked up her third straight win allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, struck out five and walked a batter in eight innings of work. She improved to 7-4 on the season.

In the nightcap it was all Lady Miners as they scored three times in the first inning. Lauren Briggs got it started hitting an opposite field home run on the game's first pitch. Kate Runyan drove in the second run with a double to left center and then Maggie Schroeder capped the scoring with a single up the middle to score Runyan.

S&T stretched its lead to 6-0 in the third inning behind another three run frame. Kay. Smith led off with home run off the scoreboard in left. Briana Catanese added an RBI double down the left field line and Lindsey DeForest drove in a run with a groundout to second.

The lead grew to 7-0 in the fifth when Kay. Smith scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

That would be all the run support Taylor Keal needed as she set down the first 13 hitters. Her bid for a perfect game ended with one out in the fifth on a single through the right side.

Kassi Deibert drove in the Lady Miners final two runs with a home run to right center in the seventh.

The Blue Tigers scored their lone run in the seventh taking advantage of three S&T errors in the frame.

The Lady Miners finished the second game with 13 hits led by Schroeder with three. Briggs, Kay. Smith and Runyan had two each.

Keal improved to 7-3 on the season tossing a complete game three-hitter. She allowed just the unearned run and struck out four while not yielding a free pass.

S&T returns to action this weekend when it hosts Wisconsin-Parkside in a GLVC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m.
