(St. Louis, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners won its second straight game defeating Maryville 2-0 on the road on Sunday. With the win the Lady Miners equaled their most wins in GLVC play with five matching last year's team.
The first half was a scoreless one though both sides had some opportunities. S&T (5-3, 5-3 GLVC) was outshot 9-5 in the opening frame by the host Saints (2-6-2, 2-5-1 GLVC), but had four shots on goal to just three for Maryville. Kelsey Kurilla (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) stood tall in the net in the opening stanza making three saves.
It remained scoreless until the 63rd minute when Rachel Wille (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored an unassisted goal on a dribbler from the right side for her first of the year. S&T added to its lead exactly 0:20 later when Lauren Todd (Raytown, Mo./Raytown South) scored her first collegiate goal to make it 2-0.
The Saints had a couple of chances to get on the board coming about eight minutes after the goals. The first one came in the 70th minute when Caroline Jaycox tried score but the Lady Miner defense came up with a save. The second one came 0:18 later when Kurilla stopped a shot by Britta Orso to preserve the shutout.
Maryville had a couple of cracks late in the contest but couldn't put anything on goal.
Kurilla stopped both shots she faced in the second half to earn her second shutout of the season and improve to 3-3 overall. She finished the game with four saves.
The Saints finished the contest outshooting the Lady Miners 16-12, but S&T had the advantage in shots on goal 8-5. Each team finished the game with three corner kicks.
The Lady Miners return home this Friday night to take on Kentucky Wesleyan at 5 p.m., at the S&T Soccer Field.
