(St. Louis, Mo.) – Kirstin Kurilla's first career college goal gave the Missouri S&T Lady Miners a 2-1 win at Missouri-St. Louis on Friday evening. Kurilla scored the game winner with less than four minutes to play and helped S&T snap its two-game losing streak.
The first half was scoreless though both sides had opportunities. The Tritons (4-4-1, 3-4-1 GLVC) took seven shots and had the better chances with four of their shots on goal. The Lady Miners (4-3, 4-3 GLVC) took four shots but were unable to put any on target.
UMSL had six corner kicks to S&T's four and committed eight fouls while the Lady Miners were whistled for four infractions.
S&T didn't waste much time scoring in the second half as Kelsey Salzman (Blue Springs, Mo./Notre Dame de Sion) scored for her first college goal on a pass from Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) 3:30 in for a 1-0 lead.
The Tritons tied it nearly 10 minutes later on Kaylee Neutzling's eighth goal of the year from Michelle Cissi.
Jaclyn Standfast (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) set up Kurilla's game winner when it looked like the game might be headed to overtime.
UMSL outshot S&T 9-5 in the second half to finish the game with a 16-9 advantage in shots and 9-4 in shots on goal. The difference in the game was Kelsey Kurilla (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) as she stopped eight of the nine shots she faced to pick up her second win of the season.
The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday afternoon taking on Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., at 12 p.m.
