ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The Missouri S&T swimming team completed a weekend sweep in the state of Arkansas Saturday, beating Ouachita Baptist in a tight meet by the score of
120-103 a night after knocking off Henderson State
136-60.
The Miners won Saturday's meet with a strong finish, going 1-2 in the final two events to overcome a six-point deficit after the Tigers took the lead in the third-to-last event.
Andrew Trowbridge (Arlington, Texas/Arlington) won two events for the Miners Saturday, taking the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:40.51 and adding a win in the 500-freestyle later in the day in 4:45.02.
Andrew Schranck (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) was also a winner on Saturday in the 200-individual medley in 1:55.74 as was
Phil Arve (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:56.21 and
Zach Lemons (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:07.99.
Lemons' win preceded S&T's win in the 400-freestyle relay in a time of 3:11.83, while the Miners' second team in the event finished in 3:15.69, two seconds ahead of OBU's top team.
Second place finishes came from
David Sanchez-Turner (Madrid, Spain/Academic Torvell) in the 200-freestyle in 1:46.96,
Kyle Gordon (Superior, Colo./Monarch) in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.10 seconds, Lemons in the 200-butterfly in 1:58.47, Schranck in the 100-freestyle in 47.68 seconds,
Zlatan Hamzic (Panceva, Serbia/Uros Predic) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:09.40 and #
Jeff Enge (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial)# in the 200-backstroke in 1:54.84. S&T's 400-medley relay team also took second in a time of 3:34.80.
Arve placed third in the 1,000-free in 9:54.74 and 500-freestyle in 4:50.28 as did
James Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) in the 200-free in 1:47.16, Sanchez-Turner in the 100-freestyle in 48.44 seconds,
Aaron Schmidt (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.35 and Enge in the 200-IM in 1:57.13.
On Friday, the Miners came away victorious in nine of the 11 events in the triumph over Henderson State.
Individual wins came from
Danny Murphy (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:59.92, Schranck in the 50-freestyle in 21.39 seconds and 100-butterfly in 51.20, Enge in the 400-individual medley in 4:07.12, Gordon in the 100-freestyle in 47.63 seconds,
Kyle Kammer (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) in the 100-backstroke in 53.82 seconds and Arve in the 500-free in 4:46.29.
In addition, Lemons posted the best time in the 100-breaststroke of 59.72 seconds.
The Miners' 200-medley relay team of Kammer, Hamzic,
Paul Reinisch (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) and Sanchez-Turner won in a time of 1:36.88, as did the 200-freestyle relay quartet of Gordon, Schranck, Howell and Sanchez-Turner in 1:26.02.
Larkins took second in the 1,000-free in 10:06.23, as did Trowbridge in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.52, Lemons in the 400-IM in 4:10.72, Sanchez-Turner in the 100-freestyle in 47.85 seconds, Trowbridge in the 100-backstroke in 54.77 seconds
Third place finishes came from Gordon in the 200-freestyle in 1:46.61, Murphy in the 400-IM in 4:16.71, Arve in the 100-butterfly in 52.95 seconds,
Hamilton Vernon (Omaha, Neb./Burke) in the 100-freestyle in 49.61 seconds, Schmidt in the 100-backstroke in 55.65,
The Miners had three events in Friday's meet in which they took the top three spots.
S&T, last year's NCAA Division II runner-up, will face the team that won the national title Friday as Drury pays a visit to the S&T Pool for a 6 p.m. meet. Miner fans will be treated to free pizza and soda prior to the meet, courtesy of the Miner Corporate Club.
