Box Score After tussling with Lincoln in a close affair for a little more than a half, the Missouri S&T women's basketball broke free with a 23-6 run in the second half and went on to record a season-opening
71-46 win over the Blue Tigers at Billy Key Court.
The Lady Miners led 30-22 at the half and still held only a six-point advantage four minutes into the second half at 38-32 after a three-pointer by Cherika Ramsey. But a three-pointer by
Kylee Grant (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods), the second of four in the second half for S&T, started the decisive run that ended with the Lady Miners up by 23 with 5:30 left to play.
Stacey Smith answered the Grant three with a basket, but the Lady Miners rattled off 10 straight points on lay-ins by
Katie McElrath (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) and
Brittany Percival (Hartville, Mo./Hartville ), followed by back-to-back three-pointers by
Lauren Dubbert (Madison, Mo./Madison).
The Lady Miners finished the second half by shooting 53.8 percent in the second half.
Lincoln had only one lead in the game -- at 2-0 -- but the Lady Miners ran off the next 12 points to take the lead for good. The Blue Tigers only got as close as five after that.
Dubbert finished with a game-high 18 points and connected on five of her seven three-point attempts in the contest. Otherwise, the Lady Miners had balanced scoring with
Tamara McCaskill (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) finishing with 10 points, Grant with eight and five others with six points apiece.
