ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's soccer opened conference play with a victory Friday, rallying for a 2-1 win over Upper Iowa at S&T Soccer Field.
The Miners (2-1-0, 1-0-0) overcame an early deficit to earn their first conference victory of the season, while Upper Iowa fell to 0-1-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Upper Iowa struck first when Maryn Hudson scored in the 15th minute, giving the Peacocks a 1-0 advantage.
Missouri S&T answered in the 22nd minute when
Aubrey Case (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) found the back of the net to even the match at 1-1. Case also assisted on the leading goal in the second half.
The Miners took the lead for good in the 51st minute when
Lily Simpson (Lexington, KY/Lafayette) scored off assists from Case and
Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North), putting S&T ahead 2-1.
Missouri S&T controlled much of the second half, outshooting Upper Iowa 16-2 after halftime and finishing the match with a 22-7 advantage in shots. The Miners also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Catie Riddle (Westland, MI/Churchill) made two saves in goal for the Miners, while Upper Iowa goalkeeper Avery Harding recorded eight saves.
Case led S&T with two shots and finished with one goal and one assist. Simpson added the game-winning goal, while Kramer contributed an assist.
What's Next
The Miners return to action Wednesday, September 9, when they travel to Wiliam Jewell. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
