ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T women's soccer scored once in each half and held off a late push from Drury to earn a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory Wednesday evening.
With the victory, the Miners improve to 5-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in GLVC play with the win.
Missouri S&T struck first in the 15th minute when
Jenna Marti (Sammamish, WA/Eastside Catholic) found the back of the net to give the Miners a 1-0 advantage. Marti's goal came at the 14:20 mark and sent S&T into halftime with the lead despite Drury holding a slight edge in second-half opportunities.
The Miners doubled their lead just before the hour mark as
Aubrey Case (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) finished off an
Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) assist in the 60th minute, putting S&T ahead 2-0. Kramer recorded her first assist of the season on the play.
Drury answered in the 67th minute on a goal by Melissa Higgins to cut the deficit to one, but the Miners' defense held firm over the final 23 minutes to secure the conference victory. Goalkeeper
Catie Riddle (Westland, MI/Churchill) made two saves in the match, while Missouri S&T limited the Panthers to just one corner kick.
Marti and Case accounted for the two Miner goals, while Kramer added the assist.
Carlye Bennett (St. Louis, MO/Saint Joseph's Academy) also recorded a shot on goal as S&T finished with five shots on target.
"Fantastic all-around performance! We dominated a majority of the game. We had to dig deep at the end, but that's a massive three points," says Head Coach
Matthew Perry.
