ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T women's volleyball battled Maryville University through five sets Saturday afternoon at Gibson Arena, but the Saints held on for a 25-16, 17-25, 25-12, 17-25, 15-13 victory over the Miners.
Missouri S&T (7-7, 0-3 GLVC) and Maryville (8-6, 3-0 GLVC) traded momentum throughout the match, with neither team able to pull away for long stretches. After Maryville took the opening set, the Miners answered with a 25-17 win in the second set to even the match.
The Saints regained the advantage by taking the third set 25-12, but Missouri S&T once again answered, rolling to a 25-17 fourth-set victory to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, the Miners and Saints battled point-for-point, with Maryville ultimately edging Missouri S&T 15-13 to claim the match.
Elly Decker (Manhattan, IL/Lincoln-Way West) led the Miners offensively with 12 kills, while
Madison Smith (Boonville, MO/Boonville),
Selin Ozdemir (Ankara, Turkey/Bilim) and
Addie Schoenberger (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton) each added nine kills. Schoenberger hit a team-best .421 for the match, while Smith finished with a .364 attack percentage.
Adelyn Weiler (Ste. Genevieve, MO/Valle Catholic) anchored the Missouri S&T defense with 26 digs, while Decker added 13 and Smith contributed six blocks. Decker also recorded three service aces.
Maryville was led by Natalie Frazier, who recorded 19 kills on 47 attacks, while Ella Domian added 11 kills. The Saints finished with 54 kills to Missouri S&T's 52 in the closely contested match.

Missouri S&T returns to action Oct. 2 when it travels to Romeoville, IL. to take on Lewis. First serve is at 6 p.m.
