ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T men's soccer dropped a 5-2 decision to Rockhurst Wednesday night at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners (4-2, 2-2 GLVC) trailed 1-0 at halftime before scoring twice early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead.
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) got S&T on the board in the 50th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to even the match at 1-1.
Brendan Owens (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) then put the Miners in front in the 61st minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville).
Rockhurst answered quickly, however, scoring in the 64th minute to tie it 2-2.
The Hawks then regained the lead in the 72nd minute before adding goals in the 80th and 88th minutes to pull away late.
S&T finished with 15 shots, including seven on goal, while Rockhurst recorded 17 shots with eight on target.
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made three saves in goal for the Miners.
Owens and Giesing each scored for S&T, while Sommer recorded an assist.
Caleb Lepant (Ozark, MO/Ozark) led the Miners with four shots, including two on goal, while Owens and
Mike Banasik (Hjoerring, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) each added three shots.
Rockhurst opened the scoring with 23 seconds remaining in the first half and took a 1-0 advantage into the break. The Hawks then scored four times in the final 45 minutes to secure the victory.

The Miners return to action Saturday when they travel to face Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m.
