ROLLA, Mo. - Missouri S&T men's soccer team opened its home schedule in dominant fashion Saturday, cruising past Davenport 5-0 at Allgood-Bailey Stadium on Senior Day.
The Miners took a moment before the match to recognize seniors Max Richey (Cape Girardeau, MO/Saxony Lutheran), Chase Bynum (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West), Sean Holland (Prairie Village, KS/Shawnee Mission East), Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano), Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville), Ben Frericks (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame), Mike Banasik (Hjoerring, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium), Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College), and Brendan Owens (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South).
S&T (2-0) wasted little time setting the tone, scoring four goals in the opening 21 minutes to take a commanding lead into halftime.
Caleb Lepant (Ozark, MO/Ozark) opened the scoring, finding the back of the net at the 12:21 mark. Owens doubled the advantage less than three minutes later, scoring off an assist from Sommer in the 15th minute.

Banasik added S&T's third goal at 17:07, with Ian Conner (Las Vegas, NV/Northwest Career & Technical Academy) providing the assist. Conner then capped the first half, scoring at 20:54 to give the Miners a 4-0 advantage.

S&T continued to control the match after halftime, outshooting Davenport 16-5 in the second half. The Miners added their final goal in the 84th minute when Juliano Costa (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Marista Rosario) scored off an assist from Lepant to complete the 5-0 victory.

S&T finished with a 28-9 advantage in shots and put 14 attempts on goal compared to just one for Davenport. The Miners also held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Lepant, Banasik, Conner, Owens and Costa each scored for the Miners, while Lepant and Conner each recorded an assist. Sommer also added an assist on Owens' goal.

Sean Holland (Prairie Village, KS/Shawnee Mission East) started in goal and recorded one save during the first half before Bruhn took over for the final 45 minutes. The duo combined for the shutout, with Davenport managing just one shot on target.

The victory moves S&T to 2-0 on the season and gives the Miners a memorable start to their home slate on Senior Day.

The Miners will be on the road next Tuesday, September 1st. They will head to Owensboro, Kentucky, where they will battle Kentucky Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
