ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T softball capped off its final regular season home weekend in strong fashion, sweeping Southwest Baptist on Alumni Day with a 10-0 run-rule victory in game one and an 11-9 comeback win in game two at the S&T Softball Field.
With the sweep, the Miners close the regular season at 31-15 overall and 22-6 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, carrying momentum into postseason competition.
Game 1 – Missouri S&T 10, Southwest Baptist 0 (5 Inn.)
Missouri S&T used a dominant fifth inning and strong pitching to secure a run-rule victory in the opener.
The Miners got on the board early in the first when Kaylee LaChappell singled to bring home a run, before adding another in the second on an RBI groundout from
AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) to take a 2-0 lead.
Missouri S&T broke the game open in the fifth, scoring seven runs to seal the win. Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/Basha) started the rally with an RBI single, followed by an RBI double from Morgan Williams (Midland, MI/Midland) and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest). Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) delivered the biggest hit of the game, launching a grand slam to left field to extend the lead.
Nelson drove in four runs, while LaChappell and Williams each recorded two hits. The Miners showed patience at the plate with seven walks and added pressure on the bases with three stolen bases, while also turning a double play and committing no errors defensively.
In the circle, Agers was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out three and walking one.
Game 2 – Missouri S&T 11, Southwest Baptist 9
Missouri S&T completed the sweep with a thrilling comeback victory in game two, using a late-game rally to secure the win.
After falling behind early, the Miners responded in the first inning with RBI singles from Nelson and LaChappell to take a 2-1 lead. Missouri S&T extended its advantage in the second inning behind a double from Williams and another RBI single from Nelson.
Southwest Baptist answered with a big third inning, using a grand slam to take an 8-5 lead, but the Miners chipped away. In the fifth, Molly Fitzgerald (Crystal Lake, IL/Marian Central Catholic) hit a two-run home run and Thompson followed with a solo shot to cut the deficit to 9-8.
Missouri S&T delivered the decisive blow in the sixth inning. After a run scored on a fielder's choice, Thompson came through with a clutch two-run single to give the Miners an 11-9 lead they would not relinquish.
Thompson led the Miners with three RBI, while Keira Jones (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill), Lopez, and Nelson each recorded two hits in the 11-hit effort. Missouri S&T again showed discipline at the plate, drawing six walks and turning a key double play.
Agers earned the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing nine runs (six earned) on seven hits while striking out three.

Missouri S&T returns to action for postseason play at the GLVC Conference Tournament, set for May 6-9 in East Peoria, Illinois.
