LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Missouri S&T shortstop Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) has been selected as the NFCA Louisville Slugger Division II National Player of the Week after leading the Miners to a perfect 4-0 showing against Upper Iowa and Quincy.
Nelson turned in one of the most efficient offensive performances in the nation, going 11-for-12 (.917) at the plate while scoring 14 runs and collecting 12 RBI. The Hailey, Idaho native recorded a .938 on-base percentage and an eye-popping 2.167 slugging percentage, tallying four home runs, two doubles, and four walks while consistently setting the tone atop Missouri S&T's lineup.
Missouri S&T's shortstop wasted no time making an impact, opening the week with a 3-for-3 effort that included a grand slam in a 14-0 win over Upper Iowa. Another perfect showing followed in Game 2, where Nelson again went 3-for-3, launching two home runs and driving in three while crossing the plate four times. The two-homer performance also marked a milestone, as Nelson set a new program record for home runs in a single season, raising the total to 16.
The momentum carried into the Quincy series, where Nelson added a home run, three runs scored, and two walks in Game 1. The weekend finale featured yet another flawless outing, as Nelson went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, and two doubles to cap the sweep.
