ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T softball delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Sunday, sweeping Quincy University in dominant fashion with a 9-2 victory in game one followed by a 19-2 rout in game two at the Missouri S&T softball field.
With the sweep, the Miners not only showcased their offensive firepower but also etched their name in the record book, setting a new program single-season home run record.
Game 1 – Missouri S&T 9, Quincy 2
Missouri S&T wasted little time responding after Quincy struck first, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control early.
After the Hawks plated a run in the opening frame, the Miners answered immediately, capitalizing on patience at the plate and timely execution.
Molly Fitzgerald (Crystal Lake, IL/Marian Central Catholic) was hit by a pitch,
Kaylee LaChappell (Oswego, IL/Oswego) drew a walk, and
Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/Basha) added a sacrifice fly before a Quincy error brought in another run to give S&T the lead.
The Miners continued to build momentum in the second when Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) launched a solo home run, and they added three more runs in the fourth behind a solo shot from Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) and a two-RBI double from AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X). Missouri S&T totaled multiple extra-base hits in the contest, with Agers, Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest), and Morgan Williams (Midland, MI/Midland) each recording doubles, while Nelson and Grobe added home runs to pace the offense. Lopez also reached a milestone in the win, eclipsing 200 career hits.
Agers was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs, none earned, on five hits with five strikeouts. She also contributed offensively with two RBI.
Missouri S&T's lineup showed depth, with Thompson, Grobe, Williams, Lopez, Nelson, and Agers each recording hits, while the team drew six walks to keep constant pressure on Quincy.
Game 2 – Missouri S&T 19, Quincy 2
The Miners exploded for 19 runs on 15 hits, highlighted by a historic performance from Thompson, who blasted two home runs and drove in seven runs to lead the offensive onslaught.
