ROLLA, MO -- Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball will have their first home conference matches of the season this week, welcoming the Rockhurst Hawks for matches on Thursday and Friday.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T holds a 7-4 record, their best record through 11 matches in program history. They split their opening Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) series of the season, going 1-1 in a pair of road contests at Roosevelt University.
The Miners lead the GLVC in hitting percentage, ranking 11th in the country with a .320 hitting percentage. S&T also ranks in the top 23 nationally for digs per set (21st with 9.18), kills per set (22nd with 12.05), and assists per set (23rd with 11.18).
Grant Edmonds' (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) 10.32 assists per set is the 4th-best mark in the nation, placing him right behind UCLA's, Hawaii's, and Lindenwood's top setters.
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) leads the GLVC in kills per set and hitting percentage, ranking 14th nationally in the former with 3.77 and 19th in the latter with .369.
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) has recorded 41 blocks this season, ranking him #19 in the country for blocks per set at 1.0.
About the Hawks
Rockhurst was chosen as the preseason favorite for the GLVC, garnering one more point than Maryville in the preseason coaches' poll. After starting the season 3-7, the Hawks have rebounded with a five-game win streak that has them sitting even at 9-9. Rockhurst is 2-0 in GLVC matches, hosting Jamestown last week and sweeping the Jimmies in both contests.
The Hawks are the GLVC leader in aces per set, averaging 2.81 and ranking 4th nationally. Shay Spadaro leads the team in that metric, ranking 19th in the country with .464 aces per set and a total of 20. Spadaro is also the team's leader in points per set, with 3.66, and kills per set, with 2.96. Defensively, Wesley Yusk and Aron DeRoy are two of the top blockers in the NCAA, combining for 95 blocks this season.
What's Next
S&T will be home again next weekend, hosting Jamestown on Friday, March 20th and Saturday, March 21st. Saturday's match against Jamestown will be the team's Senior Day.
