Miners Sweep Day Two at Alvy Early Invitational Behind Strong Pitching and Power

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Missouri S&T softball put together a dominant day two at the Alvy Early Invitational on Saturday, earning a shutout victory over Arkansas Monticello and a decisive win against East Central to improve to 6–2 on the season.

Game 1: Missouri S&T 5, Arkansas Monticello 0
Missouri S&T opened the day with a complete performance, shutting out the University of Arkansas at Monticello 5–0 behind a power display from Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) and a strong outing in the circle from AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X).

Grobe powered the Miners' offense, launching two home runs and driving in two runs, homering in both the second and sixth innings. Missouri S&T got on the board in the second when Grobe's solo shot was followed by a run-scoring groundout to take an early 2–0 lead.

The Miners put the game away in the sixth, plating three more runs as Grobe connected on her second homer of the game and Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest) delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 5–0. Lopez and Grobe each finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Missouri S&T turned two double plays defensively.

In the circle, Agers was dominant, allowing just one hit while keeping Arkansas Monticello off the scoreboard throughout the contest.

Game 2: Missouri S&T 8, East Central 1
Missouri S&T carried its momentum into the nightcap, defeating East Central University 8–1 behind a 16-hit offensive performance and steady pitching from Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo).

The Miners jumped ahead in the third inning, scoring three runs as Agers drove in one with a single and Grobe followed with a two-run double. Missouri S&T continued to add to the lead throughout the game, highlighted by Kiera Jones' solo home run in the sixth and a three-run homer from Morgan Williams (Midland, MI/Midland) in the seventh.

Jones led the Miners by going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Williams finished 3-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs. Grobe, Jones, and Williams each recorded three hits, while Lopez and Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) added multiple-hit performances. Missouri S&T was flawless defensively, committing no errors in the contest.

Miller earned the win in the circle, working all seven innings and allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out four.

What's Next
Missouri S&T will conclude play at the Alvy Early Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 11, with an 11 a.m. matchup against Southern Arkansas.
