Basketball Steamrolls Upper Iowa in Come-From-Behind Win

ROLLA, MO  --  Missouri S&T Men's Basketball overcame an early 11-point deficit against Upper Iowa, outscoring the Peacocks by 14 in the second half. The 88-71 victory is the Miners largest margin of victory over the Peacocks in matchup history.

A pair of early floaters from Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) gave the Miners a 6-5 lead two minutes in. The offense would go cold for a few minutes, resulting in the Peacocks taking a 19-8 lead before a three from Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) got the Miners offense rolling again.

The Miners steadily worked their way back into the half, getting solid minutes from Young, Oliver Kokal (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway Central) and Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) as the Miners cut the deficit to two at 25-23. Beauchamp scored a quick ten points in the final minutes of the half, leading a 17-7 S&T run to close the half.

S&T added to their lead early in the second, getting multiple buckets from Young before a three by Benassi followed by a fastbreak layup by Stovall pushed the lead to 10. The Peacocks would bring that deficit to six a few minutes later after a Tate Petersen three, but Stovall would score seven points in a little over a minute to put the Miners up by double digits again at 71-60. The Peacocks were unable to ever get back within 10 of the Miners, with S&T continuing to knock down shots in the final minutes to secure the 88-71 win.

Young led the team with 22 points, shooting 8-of-13, while Stovall scored a season-high 21 and the led the team in rebounds with 7. Beauchamp provided crucial buckets to provide the Miners with momentum, ending the night with 20 points. The team shot 58.8% from the field in the second half, the best percentage in a half since the Lincoln game in December.
