KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Missouri S&T Men's Basketball fell to the Truman State Bulldogs 80-77 tonight. They trailed almost the entire contest, falling behind by as many as thirteen but took a lead in the final minutes of the game but were unable to complete the comeback.
Truman jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes, with the Miners missing their first four shots before
Garrett Hines (Nixa, MO/Nixa) hit a three to get them on the board at 16:56. Truman's Julian Brown couldn't miss early, scoring nine points in three minutes to help his team maintain a double-digit lead over the Miners.\
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and
Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) both hit from long range in the following minutes, but Brown hit another three at 10:56 to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game at 26-13. The Miners put together a 14-3 run in the ensuing minutes, getting buckets from five different players to cut the deficit to two at 29-27. Truman State rebuilt their lead to seven, getting a three from Quientan McCafferty, before a couple of late buckets from
Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) sent the Miners into half down by just six.
The Miners got to the free throw line early in the second half, cutting the TSU lead to three after a triple by Stovall at 17:38. Threes from Truman's Brown and Ja'Vion Byers were answered by triples from
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and
Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins), leading to a layup by
Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) making it a one-point game.
Truman State rebuilt their lead to nine with 6:50 remaining, but the Miners scored eleven answered to take their first lead of the game, getting threes from Beauchamp and Stovall in the scoring run. However, Jahki Parrinello took over for the Bulldogs in the final four minutes, recording 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals to give Truman State the 80-77 victory.
Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) was the Miners' leader in scoring for the second straight game with 21 points. Young, Beauchamp, and
Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) all scored double figures as well, putting up 18, 16, & 11. Beauchamp and Hines both set personal game-highs for steals, getting 3 and 2, respectively, while Benassi led the team in assists with seven.

The Miners head to William Jewell on Saturday before returning home for Greek Night against Rockhurst on February 19th.
