Beauchamp’s Second Half Efforts Lift S&T to 81-79 Road Win

SPRINGFIELD, MO  —  Missouri S&T men's basketball won its third straight on Thursday night, defeating Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponent Drury, 81-79. Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) led the Miners in scoring with 25 points, including 17 in the second half, helping S&T overcome a nine-point deficit after halftime.

The Panthers took an early lead, hitting a pair of three-pointers to go up 8-4. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) then gave the Miners the advantage with a layup and a three-pointer before Beauchamp extended the run to 13 unanswered points with a pair of triples of his own.

Drury responded with an 8-0 run to make it 17-16, leading to five lead changes and two ties over the next several minutes. The Panthers put together another 8-0 run late in the half and headed into halftime with a 39-32 lead.

Beauchamp came out of the locker room hot, scoring nine points in under two minutes to open the second half and cutting the Panthers' lead to 45-43. Drury continued to knock down shots from deep, however, building a 54-47 advantage after back-to-back three-pointers from Isaiah Otyaluk.

The Panthers maintained a slight lead over the next several minutes, never allowing the margin to dip below five points until another Beauchamp three and a pair of free throws from Zac Brown (Collinsville, OK/Collinsville) tied the game at 65-65 with 6:37 remaining. Otyaluk answered with another triple to help Drury to a seven-point lead with under five minutes to play, but Beauchamp and Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) responded with a pair of threes to tie the game at 76-76 with under three minutes remaining.

A Drury turnover, followed by an offensive rebound and layup by Brown, gave the Miners their first lead of the second half. The advantage was short-lived, as Otyaluk buried another three on the ensuing possession to put the Panthers back in front by one.

Missouri S&T missed a pair of shots on the other end before Drury's Luke Stubbs secured the rebound, giving the Panthers possession with just over a minute left. Drury turned the ball over early in the possession on an errant pass out of bounds, however, giving the Miners another opportunity. S&T capitalized after an offensive rebound and layup by Young. Drury had three chances to reclaim the lead in the final minute but came up empty, sealing the Miners' 81-79 road victory.

Beauchamp's six made threes tie a career-high for him on a night where the senior shot 85.7% from long range. Young, Stovall, and Brown all scored in double digits, putting up 14, 12, and 12, respectively. Brown led the team in rebounds with eight, while Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) led the team in steals with three. The team's 50% from the three is a season-high.
