SPRINGFIELD, MO — Missouri S&T men's basketball will be in Springfield tomorrow for their sixth Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) game of the season. The Miners will face off against the Drury Panthers at 7:30pm following the conclusion of the women's basketball game as part of the Thursday night doubleheader.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T started the new year strong with a pair of GLVC victories, defeating William Jewell and Truman State at home. The Miners are now tied with Indianapolis for second in the conference, holding a 4-1 record. The team is third-best in the conference contests for both points per game (83.2 PPG) and shooting percentage (48.6%).
While Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) remains the team-leader in total points this season, Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) has stepped up to lead the Miners in points per game vs GLVC opponents, averaging 17.4. Young and Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) are both standing out defensively in conference play, with Young's 1.6 blocks per game ranking third in the GLVC while Rickman's 2.4 steals per game ranks second.
About the Panthers
The Drury Panthers are 6-7 this year, picking up just one win in conference play to four losses. Their lone GLVC victory came last week, defeating the Rockhurst Hawks 104-98. The team is the second-worst in the GLVC in scoring defense, giving up 81.0 points per game.
Drury has three players in the GLVC's top 20 for scoring, with KeShaun Thomas ranking highest of the trio at 10th with 18.4 points per game. Thomas also leads the Panthers in rebounding (6.6 per game) and shooting percentage (55.6%). Keion Epps is another key contributor, ranking third in the GLVC for both assists per game (4.8) and steals per game (2.2).
What's Next
The Miners will head the opposite direction on I44 next week, taking a trip to St. Louis for games against Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville.
