ST. LOUIS & CHESTERFIELD, MO -- Missouri S&T Men's Basketball is set to face Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville this week. The Miners are riding a three game win streak entering the game after beating William Jewell, Truman State, and Drury this month.
About the Miners
S&T has gone 11-2 this season and is 5-1 in conference play, most recently picking up a win at Drury. The Miners have continued to be one of the best offensive teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), ranking third in points per game against conference opponents. They have struggled to slow GLVC offenses, though, allowing the 12th-most points per game to opponents through the first six games of conference competition.
After back-to-back games scoring over 20 points, Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) has become one of the top scorers in the GLVC, ranking sixth with 18.7 points per game. Zac Brown (Collinsville, OK/Collinsville) is tied for the highest shooting percentage in GLVC contests, hitting 24 of 39 attempts for a 61.5% field goal percentage. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) remain two of the biggest defensive threats in the conference, with Young ranking second in blocks and Rickman third in steals.
About the Tritons
Missouri-St. Louis has split its first eight GLVC contests of the year, going 4-4 in conference play and 10-7 overall. The Tritons are 1-2 against GLVC opponents at home, most recently falling to Upper Iowa 79-67. The team is one of the best defensive units in the conference, allowing just 67 points per game to opponents.
Taye Moore's 14.1 points per game leads the Tritons this season. The redshirt freshman started the year strong, scoring 22 or more points in three of his first four games, but has struggled to maintain that level of success since. The Tritons boast the GLVC's top performers in both assists and field goal percentage, with Miles Boland averaging 5.8 assists per game and Vincent Davis III shooting 61.5%.
About the Saints
Maryville sits at the bottom of the GLVC standings, going 0-8 in conference play with a 2-14 overall record. The Saints' two losses last week came against William Jewell and Rockhurst, falling 121-59 and 104-65. One bright spot this season has been their success on the boards, as they rank first in the conference in offensive rebounds and boast two of the top eight offensive rebounders, including conference leader Kobe Clark.
Evan Palmquist is the Saints' leading scorer this year, averaging 16 points per game. Clark's 151 rebounds rank as the 10th-most in Division II this season and are the highest total by any GLVC athlete.
