Bello’s Late Goal Lifts Miners to Conference-Opening Win at Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri S&T women's soccer opened Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play on a winning note Sunday afternoon, defeating Lincoln 1-0 at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

The Miners controlled the run of play from the opening whistle, firing 26 shots with 13 on goal and earning 12 corner kicks. Despite the offensive pressure, the breakthrough didn't come until the 84th minute when Nathalie Bello (Hattiesburg, MS/Sacred Heart) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, delivering the decisive strike that lifted S&T to victory.

Defensively, the Miners stood tall as Madeline Falls (Gilbert, AZ/Benjamin Franklin Charter) recorded a season-high three saves to secure the shutout. Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) paced the attack with 10 shots, including four on goal, while Lily Simpson (Lexington, KY/Lafayette), Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North), and Brooke Bendoff (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) each added pressure to keep Lincoln pinned deep in its half.

Head coach Matthew Perry praised the team's resilience, saying, "We made that hard for ourselves. We were not clinical enough in front of the goal, but proud of the resilience. Any day you get three points in the GLVC, it's a good day."

The win moves Missouri S&T to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play as the Miners continue their opening stretch of the GLVC slate.

The Miners are back in action at home on Friday, September 19, at 5 p.m. as they host Drury in continued conference play.
