Softball Hosting Cardinals and Bulldogs in Final Home Games

ROLLA, MO  --  The Miners host their last two home doubleheaders this season with William Jewell tomorrow for Bark in the Park and Truman State on Sunday for Senior Day.

About the Cardinals
William Jewell is currently 9-9 in conference play (22-18 overall) and sit at 8th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They are just two games ahead of the Miners as both teams vie for the a spot at the conference championships.

While Jewell's overall batting average is not among the best in the conference, they have found success at the plate with their homeruns... hitting 21 this season to tie them with McKendree for the third-most by a GLVC team this year. Emma Jane Ogle has been the primary contibutor to the Cardinals' homerun success, recording more than half of her team's total homeruns with a conference-high 11 homeruns.

About the Bulldogs
Like S&T and Jewell, Truman is vying for one of the last spots in the GLVC championship, entering this week with a 20-21 overall record and 8-10 conference record. They will face the Lincoln Blue Tigers tomorrow before heading to Rolla for their doubleheader against S&T.

Truman has been solid in both batting and fielding this season, ranking first in the GLVC in both batting average (.326) and fielding percentage (.976). They have three of the top ten batters in the conference, with Cassie Smith (.416), Emily Wood (.408), and Caragan Baker (.400) all having strong seasons at the plate.

About the Miners
The Miners remain in the hunt for the GLVC championship, sitting two games behind with ten GLVC games left in the regular season. Both doubleheaders this weekend will have significant postseason implications for all teams involved.

The Miners moved up to 5th in the conference for strikeouts this season after a 30 strikeout weekend by Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) last weekend, moving Miller to 7th in the GLVC for total strikeouts and 4th for strikeouts looking.

S&T still leads the GLVC in homeruns with 25, with Sydney Anderson's (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) 8 tied for the second-most in the GLVC and Trista Grobe's (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) 6 tied for the third-most. Additionally, Kaylee LaChappell (Oswego, IL/) is tied for second-most triples in GLVC with four.

What's Next
S&T starts an eight-game road stretch to end the regular season... starting with Missouri Western on Wednesday, April 16th.
