Women's Basketball Fall Against Quincy in Quarterfinals on Friday

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – In a game full of 10 ties and 11 lead changes, Missouri S&T Women's Basketball fell to Quincy 69-74 in the GLVC quarterfinals.

The Hawks won the first quarter 14-11 over the Miners. Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) started the scoring for S&T, but Quincy recorded five straight points. However, Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) drained her first three-pointer of the night to tie up the game. Midway through the quarter, Quincy went out to a three-point lead. S&T brought it down to 11-12 until Taylor Haase put in a layup to make the score 14-11 after 10 minutes.

S&T answered in the second quarter as they went into halftime with a 29-27 lead. The two teams traded points early until Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) hit two free throws and Finley made another three-pointer. Quincy went back out to a lead until Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) tied it with 43 seconds left. Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) made a layup with 12 seconds left to make the score 29-27 at the break.
 
Finley led the game with 12 first half points on 4-for-9 field goal shooting. Gum and Roberts both had six points and Gum tallied six rebounds. The Miners shot 37.9% from the field but held Quincy to 34.4% in the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc.
 
Missouri S&T put up 24 points in the second quarter to 22 for the Hawks. Karsyn Stratton put in a three-point shot early to give Quincy a three-point lead. Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) made it a one-point game and Finley hit another three-pointer to make the score 36-34. The two teams remained back-and-forth until a Miners 9-2 run made it 47-40. Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) recorded a three-pointer in that run. After a Quincy comeback, Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) made a three-point shot to go out to a six-point lead late. At the buzzer, Stratton made a jumper to make it a four-point contest with 10 minutes left.

Quincy won the fourth quarter 25-16 to top S&T 74-69. They took a one-point lead early in the quarter thanks to a 7-0 run. S&T attempted to stage a comeback and Metz tied the game with her three-pointer with 2:43 left. Quincy took a 68-65 lead before Roberts made it a one-point game. At a 69-70 deficit for S&T, the Hawks made four straight free throws at the end of the game to win 74-69.
 
Finley led the Miners with 18 points on 6-for-15 shooting and 3-for-7 three-point shooting. Roberts had 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Gum picked up 10 rebounds and nine points for S&T. Metz recorded nine points with five rebounds and Gilbertson tied a career high with her eight points.

As a team, Missouri S&T shot 45.5% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range. They held Quincy to 38.4% field goal shooting and 25% three-point shooting. S&T grabbed 40 total rebounds with seven on the offensive end. They had 28 points in the paint and 19 bench points in this game.

With the loss, the S&T season has concluded. They went 15-12 overall this season with a 10-10 GLVC record and a sixth place finish. The Miners went 10-5 at Gibson Arena this season, the first 10-win home season since 2011-12. They also had representation in postseason awards as Finley was named to the All-GLVC first team and Roberts was named to the second team with her Defensive Player of the Year award.

What's Next

The GLVC All-Tournament Team will be announced on Sunday after the championship game. After that, offseason preparations will be underway until the 2025-26 schedule is announced in the fall.
