ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball is set to open the GLVC Tournament against third-seeded Quincy on Friday at 8:15 p.m.
Series History
Missouri S&T is 23-21 all-time against Quincy going back to the 1985-86 season. The Hawks are on a four-game winning streak over the Miners. These two teams played each other twice this season as Quincy won both matchups.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks between those two games. She shot a combined 16-for-27 (59.2%) against Quincy this season. In postseason play, the Miners and Hawks are 1-1 all-time after they matched up in the 2007-08 NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional as the Miners won 79-73. The Hawks defeated S&T the next season in the GLVC Tournament 69-57.
About the Hawks
Quincy had a successful 22-7 season this year with a 16-4 GLVC record. They were picked to finish tied for seventh in the GLVC Preseason Poll but earned the #3 seed in the GLVC Tournament. Nicole McDermott earned a spot on the All-GLVC first team, Cymirah Williams placed on the second team and Mariann Blass collected a third team honor. Head coach Courtney Boyd was named the GLVC Coach of the Year.
McDermott led the team and was seventh in the GLVC in points with 15.7 per game. She also averaged 6.6 rebounds per game with 85 assists, 41 steals and 11 blocks. Williams was second in the GLVC and first in the conference with 9.1 rebounds per game. Blass averaged 11.3 points per game for Quincy this season. Quincy's offense ranks second in the conference, while their defense is seventh. Their 44.7 rebounds per game is first in the GLVC and sixth in NCAA DII.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T goes into the GLVC Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 10-10 GLVC record. S&T was picked 12
th in the GLVC Preseason Poll but earned a spot in the GLVC Tournament as the #6 seed.
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) was named to the All-GLVC first team and Roberts was named to the second team. Roberts was also named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year for her historic performance this season.
Finley is first on the team and 13
th in the conference in points per game at 12.9. She is fifth in three-point field goals per game and 13
th in assists per game. Roberts is first on the team with six rebounds per game and is second with 12 points per game. Her 60 blocks and 2.3 blocks per game are both first in the conference and top 16 in NCAA DII. Her field goal percentage of 51.6 is fourth in the GLVC. S&T's defense is third in the GLVC this season with just 60.8 points allowed per game. They are second in blocks and fourth in rebounds per game.
