Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 EDMOND, OK -- The Miners faced a pair of difficult opponents today, falling to RV Pittsburg State and #24 Oklahoma Christian.
RV Pittsburg State 10, Missouri S&T 5
The Miners put up a pair of runs in the top of the first, with errors by the Gorillas giving
Ty Neal (Enid, OK/Kremlin-Hilldale) and
Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/) opportunities to cross home plate in the opening inning. Pitt State would match the Miners in the first though, scoring two of their own off of a triple and a double. The Gorillas' bats stayed hot for the next few innings, with PSU hitting a pair of home runs and adding six more runs in the next three innings.
The Miners would score three in the top of the fifth, with
Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) recording an RBI single before
Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) stepped up and crushed a home run to left center to bring in two more runs for S&T and make it an 8-5 game. However, S&T would not record a hit in the final two innings, only getting one on base in the sixth and seventh while the Gorillas added two more runs to take the game 10-5.
#24 Oklahoma Christian 7, Missouri S&T 3
The Miners took an early lead in game two just as they had in the first, scoring a pair off of RBIs by
Jordyn Davis (Broken Arrow, OK/) and
Joselyn Ulloa (Chicago, IL/). Oklahoma Christian was consistent with their scoring, bringing at least one runner home in every inning except for the first and the fifth, eventually pulling away to a 7-2 lead over the Miners.
Down by five in the top of the seventh, the Miners found themselves in a favorable position early with the game on the line. An OC error, a single, and a walk set up loaded bases for the Miners with 0 outs on the board. A fielder's choice RBI for
Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) would help the Miners cut the deficit to four, leaving them with one out and runners on first and second. Grobe would further aid S&T's position with a stolen base in the final at bats, but a pop out would end the game at 7-3 in the Eagles' favor.
