Rematches Against Quincy, Upper Iowa This Week for #5 Miners

2/6/2025 8:00:00 AM

QUINCY, IL & FAYETTE, IA  --  #5 Missouri S&T is set to face the Quincy Hawks and Upper Iowa Peacocks this week, both games being rematches from their December schedule.

About the Hawks
The Miners and Hawks faced each other in Rolla on December 7th, with S&T prevailing 72-55. Quincy has lost 7 of their 9 GLVC games since that matchup, leaving them with an 8-12 overall record and a 3-9 conference record.

Freshman Max Booher remains the Hawks' leading scorer this season, averaging 12.8 points per game. He is seventh in the GLVC for three pointers made per game, averaging 2.5 per contest. Ethyn Brown has been the Hawks' primary game manager, sitting at 8th in the conference in assists per game and 10th in assist to turnover ratio.

The Hawks sit dead center in the conference for scoring margin, placing 8th with an 0.4 margin. They are second in the conference in steals per game with 8.0 and are fourth in assists with 14.5.

Quincy leads the all-time series against S&T 25-11, but the Miners have taken the last four straight and are on a two-game win streak in Pepsi Arena, most recently knocking off the Hawks at home 72-65 in 2023.

About the Peacocks
Upper Iowa was ranked 21st in the nation when the Miners beat them 90-86 back on December 5th, but they have since dropped out of the rankings entirely. They are 15-6 overall and 9-4 in conference. They went 1-1 in their road trip last week, falling to Drury 82-81 but rebounding with a 79-67 victory over Southwest Baptist.

Graduate student Nick Reid has been one of the best players in the GLVC this season, averaging a conference-high 24.6 points per game that is also 6th highest in all of Division II. He is tied with Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) for the most GLVC Player of the Week awards this season, with each athlete record three so far.

The Peacocks have a high-powered offense, averaging 84.4 points per game which is second in the conference, behind only S&T. Their struggles have been on defense though, allowing the third most points per game to opponents in the GLVC, giving up 76.2 per game.

The history between S&T and Upper Iowa is a short one, with UIU leading 2-1 all-time and the Miners claiming the most recent contest earlier this season. All three games in this series have been close, with the outcomes being determined by an average of just 5.3 points.

About the Miners
Currently riding an 11-game win streak, the 2024-25 Miners continue to make history for S&T. Their victory over Lewis last week clinched the first undefeated January in program history, going 8-0 last month. Their record and win streak are program bests as well. The Miners win streak at home has now improved to 15 in a row, stretching back to February 3rd, 2024.

Missouri S&T is 18-1 overall, 12-0 in-conference and they continue to dominate the GLVC statistical leaderboards, ranking in the top three in 17 key categories. They are 4th in Divison II for scoring margin and 8th in field goal percentage.
