Missouri S&T 4, Missouri Western 2
It looked like the Miners may be in for another high scoring game early in the game, with Missouri Western hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Grobe recorded the Miners' first hit of the game in the top of the second, singling to left field. The next three Miners were patient at the plate, all taking walks to give the Miners their first run. Two at bats later, a single by
Kaylee LaChappell (Oswego, IL/) brought home a second run, tying the game at 2-2.
The Griffons threatened to retake the lead in the bottom of the second, moving a runner to third base with just one.
Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/) would strikeout the next batter before getting out of the inning unscathed with a line out by the following MWSU batter. A pitching change in the third brought
Julia Kanoy (Hamilton, Mo./Penney) to the plate… she would pitch the remainder of the contest for the Miners.
Taylor Nelson (Jefferson City, MO/Phillips Exeter Academy) homered in the second at bat of the inning, giving S&T their first lead of the day at 3-2. A single and an error put the Miners in position to score a run off a single by Anderson, extending their lead to 4-2. Kanoy only gave up two more hits the rest of the game, helping the Miners hold on to snag their first win of the season.

The Miners got into trouble early, allowing hits in the first three at bats of the game as the Jets took a 4-0 lead in the opening inning. The Miners answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first, with Anderson, Grobe, and
Allie Kelly (Park Hills, MO/Central) all recording RBIs.
The Miners added on to their lead in the second inning, with
Taylor Nelson (Jefferson City, MO/Phillips Exeter Academy) hitting her fourth homerun of the season to bring two runs home and put S&T up 5-4. The runs continued for the Miners in the next inning, with Anderson and Grobe each contributing a homerun as the lead grew to 9-4.
A throwing error by the Miners in the top of the fourth allowed the Jets to score a pair of runs to cut S&T's lead to just three, before getting out of the inning with a groundout. The Miners were able to put the game away in the fifth though, loading the bases and scoring once before a grand slam by Anderson put the Miners up 14-6 to reach the mercy rule limit of eight runs.
