ROLLA, MO -- Basketball is returning to Gibson Arena this Saturday when Men's Basketball hosts Harris-Stowe for their home opener tipping off at 1pm. The game will be preceded by a ceremony celebrating the men's 2024-25 Great Lakes Valley Conference Regular Season Championship, with championship rings being presented and the unveiling of the new championship banner.
About the Miners
S&T opened their season with a win last weekend, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 68-56 after a strong performance by
Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) that saw the junior forward shoot 72% from the field and lead the Miners in scoring with 17 points. The team shot 46.6% from the field in the game, knocking down 27 of 58 attempts and going 5 of 20 from the three. Four different Miners contributed heavily in rebounds that game, with Stovall,
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette),
Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins), and
Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) each grabbing five or more. Beauchamp's 7 boards are a career high for him.
The Miners are 42-11 all time against Harris-Stowe, with the last contest between the two teams in coming in 2017 when the Hornets beat S&T 96-87
About the Hornets
Harris-Stowe is 1-4 this season, with their lone win coming in their season opener against Culver-Stockton. They defeated the Wildcats 89-88, while junior guard Shamar Carter led the team in scoring with 19 points. Carter is one of three Hornets averaging double digit scoring this season, being joined by Nashwan Davis and Umar Lawson, the latter leading the team with 15.4 points per game. Ty Lampley is the team's leader in rebounds despite only starting one game this year, recording 26 in the first five games.
