ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's soccer secured its spot in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament with a 1-0 shutout victory over William Jewell on Sunday afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners (9-3-3, 7-3-2 GLVC) earned their ninth win of the season behind a relentless offensive performance and a lockdown defensive effort that limited the Cardinals to just seven total shots and none on goal.
S&T broke through in the 41st minute when Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) buried the eventual game-winner off an assist from Andrei Paley (Rogers, AR/Bentonville), giving the Miners a 1-0 advantage they would hold the rest of the way.
The Miners controlled play from the outset, finishing with 24 total shots, including eight on target, and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Banasik led the attack with four shots (two on goal), while Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) and Nathan Weyrauch (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) added three and four attempts, respectively.
Defensively, the Miners were composed and organized, anchored by Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano), who earned his sixth shutout of the season without facing a single shot on goal. The back line of Jake Salazar-Blair (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista), Alexander Burum (Oslo, Norway/Valle Hovin Vgs), Caden Archer (St. Louis, MO/Vianney), and Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) held firm against limited Jewell opportunities.
With the result, Missouri S&T clinched a berth in the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2022, marking another step forward for the program under head coach Robert Cummings.
Cummings added, "Proud of the guys for clinching a conference tournament berth. It's a good way to end our last regular-season home game."
What's Next
The Miners will close out the regular season this weekend, when they travel to Rockhurst on Friday, October 31, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, followed by a road match at Southwest Baptist on Sunday, November 2, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
