Vieira’s Brace Lifts Miners to 2-1 Victory Over Truman State

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's soccer continued its late-season surge with a 2-1 victory over Truman State in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play Friday night at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners (8-3-3, 6-3-2 GLVC) picked up their second win in a row to continue their strong stretch of conference play.

After a scoreless first half, Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) put S&T in front in the 54th minute, firing home the opener to give the Miners early control. Truman equalized just three minutes later, but Vieira struck again in the 87th minute, his second brace of the season, finishing off a setup from Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) to secure the match-winning goal.

S&T dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Bulldogs 23-12 and earning a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Vieira led all players with six shots, while Brendan Owens (St. Louis, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) added four and Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) tallied five. Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) anchored the Miners defensively with six saves, holding Truman to one goal despite sustained pressure late.

With the win, Missouri S&T strengthens its position in the GLVC standings heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

What's Next
Missouri S&T returns to Allgood-Bailey Stadium on Sunday, October 26, as they take on William Jewell. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
