Bresette’s Penalty Kick Lifts Miners to 1-0 Shutout at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri S&T men's soccer continued its strong run of form Sunday afternoon, earning a 1-0 shutout victory over Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play at Jack Mackenzie Field.

The win marks the Miners' third victory over Quincy in the last nine meetings and improves their record to 7-3-3 overall and 5-3-2 in GLVC play.

After a scoreless first half, S&T broke through in the 72nd minute when Sam Bresette (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) buried a penalty kick for his second goal of the season, giving the Miners the only goal they would need.

S&T controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Quincy 18-3 and holding a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Bresette led the offense with four shots, three on target, while Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) and Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) each added multiple quality chances.

The Miner defense was dominant, holding the Hawks to a single shot on goal. Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) recorded his fifth shutout of the season, making one save behind a back line anchored by Alexander Burum (Oslo, Norway/Valle Hovin Vgs), Caden Archer (St. Louis, MO/Vianney), and Jake Salazar-Blair (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista).

What's Next
Missouri S&T returns home to Allgood-Bailey Stadium on Friday, October 24, to face Truman State, followed by a Sunday matchup with William Jewell on October 26.
