ROLLA, MO — Missouri S&T struck early but couldn't keep pace with a high-powered Indianapolis offense on Saturday afternoon, falling 56-13 at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. The Miners matched the Greyhounds touchdown-for-touchdown early in the first quarter before UIndy pulled away with a series of long drives and efficient passing, handing S&T its third GLVC loss of the season.
After the Greyhounds opened the scoring with a 24-yard rush, Jake Farrell (Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep) found Tyler Gioia (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) over the middle for a 59-yard touchdown strike to even the score at 7-7 midway through the first quarter. UIndy regained control with two unanswered touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead after the first and stretched the margin to 35-7 at halftime. The Miners added two third-quarter field goals from Layne Ryals (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg)—good from 41 and 35 yards—but couldn't mount a late comeback as the Greyhounds sealed the win in the fourth.
Offensively, S&T moved the ball effectively through the air, with quarterbacks Jake Farrell (Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep) and Austin Havens (Bixby, OK/Bixby) combining for 270 passing yards. Brennen Taranto (Weston, FL/Western) led the receiving corps with 75 yards on five catches, while Gioia's 59-yard catch-and-run touchdown marked the Miners' longest play of the afternoon. On defense, Seneca Bradley (Clarksville, TN/Rossview) recorded 10 tackles along with a forced fumble and a tackle for loss, while Bentley Hart (Brookland, AR/Brookland) added a sack, a forced fumble, and two tackles for loss.
