ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's soccer delivered an explosive offensive performance Friday night, rolling to a 4-1 victory over Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners (5-4-1, 3-3-1 GLVC) wasted no time setting the tone, striking just three minutes into the match when Caryle Bennett found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) then took over, recording a first-half brace with goals in the 16th and 25th minutes, the latter assisted by goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain). Benassi completed the hat trick assisted by Savannah Tully (Elkhart, IN/Elkhart) early in the second half, scoring her third of the night and eighth of the season in the 53rd minute to put S&T ahead 4-0. The last Miner to score three goals in a game was Ally Hasken on October 7, 2022 against UMSL.
Indianapolis pulled one back in the 64th minute, but the Miner defense held firm the rest of the way. Barcom anchored the back line with four saves while also notching an assist, becoming the first S&T keeper this season to record a point. The defensive unit, led by Grace Kohler (Roca, NE/Norris), Sarah Henze (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville), and Savannah Tully (Elkhart, IN/Elkhart), limited the Greyhounds to just six total shots.
Offensively, the Miners finished with a 15-6 advantage in total shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Benassi led all players with six shots and four on target, while Bennett, Macy Wilderson (Kansas City, MO/St. Pius X), and Ava Napieralski (Keller, TX/Keller) each added quality chances throughout the match.
Head coach
Matthew Perry added on the Miners win, "Another good performance. We were great in possession tonight and scored some good goals. Need to recover fast tonight for a tough one Sunday!"
With the win, Missouri S&T improves to 5-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in GLVC play.
