OWENSBORO, Ky. – Missouri S&T Men's Soccer moved to 2-0 after their 2-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
The Miners started out the game with two early shots, but the Panthers cashed in a goal in the 24
th minute. Callum Nolan put one in the back of the net to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.
Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) and
Daylan Frerker (Collinsvillle, IL/Collinsville) recorded the only shots for the Miners for the rest of the half as they went into the locker room down by a score.
S&T tied the match early in the second half after
Nathan Weyrauch (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) picked up his first goal of the year in the 55th minute.
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) tallied the assist.
The Miners had three corner kicks down the stretch but could not cash in a goal. In the 90
th minute, Bernis put one back in the net with two seconds left on the clock to steal the game from the Panthers. It was Bernis' first goal of the year and his first career game-winning goal.
The game ended 2-1 and the Miners have won their first two games of the season for the first time since 2011. Bernis recorded three total shots on Sunday and Frerker had two. In the net,
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) only allowed one goal.
Through two games this season, Bruhn has faced 11 total shots with only one goal allowed.
What's Next
The Miners will stay on the road this week as they will travel to Jackson, Tennessee, to take on Union. They will come back home Sept. 15 to face new GLVC opponent Lincoln at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the 2024 season can be found
